Pete Hottelet founded Omni Consumer Products in 2006. He named the company after the mega-corporation in movie RoboCop. The company dedicates itself to the serious business of defictionalizing fictional brands. Four years later they have created real-world versions of movie and TV brands that cover everything from Brawndo (the energy drink from Idiocracy) to Sex Panther cologne (from Anchorman) to Tru Blood (the blood replacement beverage from True Blood) to, shortly, Stay Puft Marshmallows (from Ghostbusters). Omni Consumer Products is the United States leader of bringing products off the screen and into the real world!

A Radio Station You Can Control

in Just for fun, Music, Technology No Comments

(I posted a blog about Jelli on last year’s blog site, but I feel compelled to share this awesome site once more before my internship ends).

Last year, CBS launched an online service called ‘Jelli‘ – a 100% user-controlled radio that has since been gaining popularity. Site visits are now in the thousands in comparison with the numbers of last july.

A live broadcast of Jelli can be heard on weeknights on KITS-FM (live 105) from 8pm to midnight and every Sunday evening, 10pm to midnight, but otherwise it plays on the Jelli iTunes podcast online 24/7. Listeners compose a personal playlist of songs they’d like to hear and vote online to pull a song off the radio instantly if enough people feel like changing it.

Upon signing up for Jelli, one is introduced to the website and given directions on how to navigate, vote for a song that one either likes or dislikes by and given the ability to chat live with other listeners. I have never seen such a clever integration between digital and traditional broadcasting before. It’s definitely worth bookmarking.

Intern’s Job: Date 30 Chicks in 30 Days

in Facebook, Just for fun, New York, Social Media No Comments

Clever, 23 year-old Brian, intern at BBH, has decided to take on a social media viral challenge by lunching the project called “Dating Brian” – a site on which he will involve the visitor in his dating endeavors. He has vowed to go on 30 dates with 30 women in 30 days and he’s asking the website user to decide who he dates, where they go on their dates and whether or not he should pay for the date, etc.

The site includes links to his mediums, Facebook, Youtube and Twitter, all of which are actively being used to update his friends and follwers.

This is fairly amusing and I may follow his next few dates. I am grateful, however, that TargetCast does not require all interns to do this…
